General Questions

The Colorado QuitLine is a free service that helps Colorado residents quit using tobacco and nicotine products. It offers personalized coaching, support materials, and free nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) such as patches, gum, or lozenges.

All Colorado residents aged 18 and older are eligible, regardless of income or insurance status. The program supports individuals using any form of tobacco, including cigarettes, e-cigarettes, cigars, oral nicotine pouches, and smokeless tobacco.  My Life, My Quit is available for Colorado youth between 12 and 17 who need help to quit using nicotine.

Enrollment is quick and easy. You can sign up online at coquitline.org or by calling 1-800-QUIT-NOW. The process takes less than five minutes.

No, the QuitLine services are free to all participants.

Participants receive proactive coaching sessions, access to online resources, and, if eligible, free NRT. Coaches provide personalized support to help you develop a quit plan and manage cravings.

While we highly recommend coaching due to its effectiveness, the QuitLine also offers an Online-Only program with self-help materials. However, research shows that individuals who engage with a coach are more likely to quit successfully.

Quitting tobacco often requires multiple attempts. The QuitLine understands this and is here to support you, whether it’s your first try or your tenth. Each attempt brings you closer to quitting for good.

Friends & Family

Encourage them to consider using the QuitLine for support. Listen without judgment, offer encouragement, and help them avoid triggers. Remember, your support can make a significant difference in their quit journey.

While you can’t enroll someone else directly, you can gather information and encourage them to reach out to the QuitLine themselves. Providing them with resources and expressing your support can be very helpful.

The QuitLine offers educational materials and guidance on how to support someone quitting tobacco. Visit the Helping Friends and Family page for more information.

Health Professionals

Health care providers can refer patients through fax, web-based referrals, or electronic health record (EHR) systems. Active referrals are more effective than simply advising patients to call.

Referrals typically require the patient’s contact information, tobacco use status, and any relevant medical conditions that may affect the use of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT). Ensure that the patient consents to the referral.

The QuitLine will attempt to contact the patient within 48 hours, making up to three call attempts. Providers will receive progress reports at 3 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months after the referral. Participants can “Consent to Text” to receive a text alert prior to their coaching calls.

Yes, the QuitLine has tailored programs for pregnant Coloradans and those with chronic diseases.
